Escalator Safety Protection Devices
1. Skirt Deflector Device
The anti-pinch devices installed on the skirt panels of escalators consist of rigid and flexible components, reducing the risk of feet, shoes, or clothing becoming trapped between the step and the skirt panel.
2. Deflector Device
The deflector device is located on the outer cover plate of the escalator to prevent passengers from stepping on the cover plate and climbing onto the outer deck.
3. Barrier Device
A glass partition is installed between two escalators to prevent passengers from preventing passengers from entering hazardous areas between adjacent escalators.
4. Anti-slide Device
Standing, sitting, or sliding on the deck covers between the handrails is extremely dangerous; the anti-slide device is designed to prevent passengers from sliding on the escalator cover plates.
5. Protective Barriers
Protective barriers are designed to prevent passengers from sustaining preventing passengers from coming into contact with adjacent structures. at the intersection of the escalator and the floor or between intersecting escalators.
6. Emergency Stop Button
This button is located in a conspicuous and easily accessible position near the escalator’s entrance or exit. If the escalator is longer than 30 meters, an additional emergency stop button is installed at the intermediate landing., an additional emergency stop button is installed midway along the escalator to ensure that passengers can press it as quickly as possible in the event of an emergency, bringing the escalator to a stop.
7. Handrail Entry Protection
Device A protective device is installed at the A safety device installed at the handrail entry point detects objects caught between the moving handrail and the inlet, immediately stopping the escalator. at the handrail turn-off end to safeguard passengers’ limbs. When this device is activated, the drive motor cannot start or must stop immediately.
8. Comb Plate Protection Device
If a foreign object becomes lodged, causing the comb plate to collide with the steps and preventing proper engagement, this device detects obstructions between the comb plate and the steps
9. Inspection Cover Safety Switch
This device consists of a safety switches monitor whether the inspection covers are properly closed. at the drive and turn stations. When the maintenance access panel or landing cover is opened, the switch is activated, causing the escalator to stop.
10. Overspeed Protection Device
This device stops the escalator when its operating speed exceeds the specified limit.
11. Unintended Reversal Protection Device
This device stops the escalator when the steps change from their specified direction of travel.
12. Step Chain Safety Device
This device stops the escalator when the step chain breaks or becomes excessively stretched.
13. Step Chain Tension Protection Device
This device stops the escalator when it detects excessive step chain tension or slack.
14. Step Sagging Protection Device
This device stops the escalator when any part of a step sags, causing it to lose engagement with the comb teeth.
15. Missing Step Protection Device
This device detects missing steps on the escalator and stops the escalator before the gap reaches the comb plate.
16. Handrail Speed Deviation Protection Device
This device monitors the speed difference between the handrail and the steps. If the deviation exceeds 15% for 5–15 seconds, the escalator stops automatically to maintain synchronization and protect passengers.
17. Handrail Monitoring Device
When a crack appears in the handrail belt, this device automatically stops the escalator to stop the escalator, thereby preventing accidents.
Escalators are equipped with multiple safety devices designed to protect passengers. However, safe operation also depends on responsible use. By following basic safety guidelines, passengers can help ensure a safe and comfortable ride every time.
